About Stargazey Crafts
Dydh da and welcome to beautiful Kernow. I’m Marion Hoch and this is where I live; a special place, rich in heritage and outstanding natural beauty. On the north coast, on the far side of St Ives Bay is where you will find 3 miles of golden sand, awesome surf and Stargazey Crafts.
Deliciously addicted to needle felting I’ve turned a hobby into a genuine cottage industry. Whilst working for the NHS I completed my BA Hons Degree specializing in Art History with a bit of Psychology on the side. I’ve always had an interest in crafting and art and am inspired by nature and the countryside around me. After watching a short YouTube clip in 2013 I purchased my first starter kit and had a stab at needle felting. Soon hooked, I exhausted all my friends and family with felted gifts. After a great reception at a craft fair where I was demonstrating felting, I decided to launch my business and am really excited to turn something I love into a full time career.
Naturally hand-crafted using wool from various breeds of sheep, I use needle and wet felting techniques to sculpt three dimensional designs. The nature of the medium means that each creation is one of a kind. Free from the constraints of patterns, each of my little critters have individual character and personality designed with love and a little humour to make you smile.
Mind over Matter
I love the tactile and therapeutic nature of working with wool and watching a little creature with its own personality come to life in my hands. Craft can go beyond being a simple ‘hobby’ and can have very real health benefit. Improving mood and cognitive function are just a few of the ways that crafts can improve your well-being. If you are interested in learning this skill I hold workshops at the Hall for Gwinear throughout the year.
Out and About
You’ll find me at selected events around Cornwall either with the gazebo or my vintage campervan.
I’ll also be selling from this website once it’s fully developed. In the meantime have a look at my Etsy Shop. If you can’t see what you’re looking for, then you can commission me to make it. Once I know your budget, the size and style, I’ll come up with something bespoke and personalised just for you.
You will find details of all my workshops and events that I attend on my Facebook page.
Made in Cornwall Scheme
Cornwall is home to a vibrant business community producing an extensive range of artistic and hand crafted items and has built a reputation for quality and excellence. However, as with all good things, there are always people ready to impersonate and take advantage of this reputation. In 1991 Cornwall County Council’s Trading Standards Service launched The ‘Made in Cornwall’ scheme, or Approved Origin scheme. Showcasing the best of Cornish-made products, the distinctive Engine House logo guarantees the origins of product, as indeed, Made in Cornwall.
